Native advertising is a paid form of advertising that is frequently used by content marketers. Have you ever scrolled through your Facebook News Feed or Twitter account and come across a post that says “promoted” or “suggested” on the top left hand corner? This is a form of native advertising, which has proved to be very beneficial over the years for brands to utilize.

Advantages of using Reddit’s Mobile Advertising

As of March 2018, Reddit was named the 4th most trafficked site on the internet and has been a big driver of engagement and traffic. Advertisers who seek mobile conversions and engagement should tap into native ads on Reddit. Reddit’s active users spend the majority of their time accessing Reddit on mobile, as opposed to desktop. Using this new form of paid advertising on their official iOS and Android apps will help increase your brand’s awareness and consumer engagement.

New Features for Users

There is only one visual difference between the organic posts created by Reddit and the in-feed native posts. The in-feed native advertising, as mentioned, will have the “promoted” label. Unlike other promoted posts on Facebook or Twitter, the Reddit in-feed ads enable users to interact like never before. Much like regular Reddit posts in their feed, users can upvote, downvote and comment on these in-feed native ads.

New Features for Advertisers

To ensure that these advertisements will reach the right audience, Reddit will begin to enable targeting by interest or browsing history to increase awareness and potential conversions. Other targeting methods include community, location, device used, time of day, and subreddit. Subreddits are a page dedicated to a specific topic on Reddit (r/news). Advertisers will also now be able to use Brand Safety Controls. These native promoted posts will work across all subreddits until directed otherwise. Advertisers can choose which subreddits to target and which to avoid, incase they really want to be associated with a certain topic or want to avoid a certain one.

Much like advertising on other social platforms, this can be beneficial when used properly. For this to happen, brands need a team of experienced marketers to navigate the channels and targeting options in order to put you in front of your desired audience.
